How to caramelize onions

How to caramelize onions:-

When I started out cooking, this was something I never seemed to get right. The onions were either undercooked as I was always eager to get to the eating part. Or the heat was too high, which resulted in burning the onions.

Onions are the base for most of our Qurries. So don't rush cooking the onions.

Having caramelized onions adds so much flavour to the Qurry, and you will be glad you took the extra time to get this right.

To make caramelized onions:-

  • Add 2 tbsp of vegetable oil or sunflower oil to a pan on medium heat.
  • Add two chopped onions and stir until coated in the oil.
  • Leave the onions to cook on low to medium heat and stir now and again.
  • The onions will become translucent and gradually take on more colour until they are golden brown.  It can take 10 to 15 minutes.

Freezing your onions:-

Allow the onions to cool and either put them in a small container or an airtight bag. The onions will keep for three months.
